An open plan suffers from intelligible speech, not noise
It isn't the volume itself that gets in the way of work but the fact that you can make out other people's conversations. The brain involuntarily tunes in to intelligible speech, and concentration falls apart. Total silence in an open plan makes it worse: every conversation becomes an event for the whole floor.

No PRO fees for our music
A typical background-music service gives you tracks by well-known artists. The rights to those tracks belong to labels and songwriters, so an office may also have to deal with a performing rights organization (PRO), such as ASCAP or BMI in the US, PRS for Music in the UK or SOCAN in Canada, on top of the subscription.
Harmonia works differently. Our catalog is original music produced for business use, and a public-performance license for your venue is included in the subscription. Our tracks are not registered with PROs such as ASCAP, BMI, PRS, SOCAN, APRA AMCOS or GEMA, so playing music from our catalog does not create PRO fees for that music.

Send an application and we approve it within a business day. After that, the music plays on the devices you already have in the office: a laptop, a mini-PC with a speaker, a Smart TV or the building's public-address system.
Staff don't have to pick anything each morning. Playlists and the schedule are set once, then the music starts by itself and doesn't repeat during a shift. For a chain, everything is managed centrally, by location and zone, from one account.

Do I need a music license for an office?
If music plays in areas that visitors or a wide circle of people can access, it can count as public performance, and in many countries that requires a license. For our catalog, no PRO fees apply: Harmonia tracks are original music produced for business use, they are not registered with PROs such as ASCAP, BMI, PRS for Music or GEMA, and a public-performance license is included in the subscription.
What music suits an open plan?
Light lo-fi, neoclassical for work, acoustic focus, quiet electronica, all without distinct vocals. The goal isn't to entertain but to make the conversation at the next desk stop being intelligible.
How much does music for offices cost per month?
From $12/mo per location when billed annually ($144 a year). Monthly billing is $17/mo. Each additional location in the same company is cheaper: $7/mo billed annually or $12/mo billed monthly. A separate zone with its own playlist is $4/mo billed annually or $5/mo billed monthly. There are no hidden fees for genres or devices.
Can I play Spotify or Apple Music in an office?
No. Personal accounts on Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube Music are licensed for personal, non-commercial listening only, and their terms of service forbid playing them in a business. Music in a public space counts as public performance, which a personal subscription does not cover. You need either a public-performance license from the rights organizations in your country or a catalog that is licensed for business use, like ours.
Won't the music get in the way of calls?
Meeting rooms are set up as a separate zone where the background is off or set almost to zero. In the open plan the volume is chosen so the music doesn't reach a headset microphone: it's a quiet background, not something to listen to.
What do I show during a music licensing inspection?
Two documents: your subscription agreement with Harmonia and the license certificate (PDF) issued for each location. The certificate confirms that the venue holds a public-performance license for our catalog. If a rights organization contacts you, write to legal@harmonia-b2b.com and we will help you with the paperwork.
What equipment does the music play on?
Almost anything: a POS terminal, mini-PC, TV box, Smart TV, laptop, or an Android or iOS phone. You don't need to buy special hardware. Everything runs through the web player or the app.
What happens if the internet goes down?
The player caches your playlist and keeps playing offline. The music doesn't stop while the connection comes back.
