"Copyright-free" is an imprecise term, and that matters

Works without copyright hardly exist: rights arise at the moment of creation and last for decades. When people online write "copyright-free music", they usually mean one of two things: tracks under a free license such as Creative Commons, or a catalog whose rights belong to the service itself.

The difference is fundamental. A free license almost always comes with conditions: credit the author, no commercial use, no derivatives. Breaking any of them turns lawful use into unlawful use, and you're the one who has to prove otherwise.

A video and a venue need different rights

Most "copyright-free" catalogs are built for video editing: the permission covers using the music in a clip, not playing it publicly in a room. Those are different kinds of use and different rights.

A venue needs the right to public performance. With Harmonia it comes in the subscription agreement, for the catalog we produced for business use, and it covers your location.

What you get with the subscription

The subscription agreement with a public-performance license for your venue, and a license certificate (PDF) for each location. Our tracks are not registered with PROs such as ASCAP, BMI, SOCAN, PRS for Music, APRA AMCOS or GEMA, so playing music from our catalog does not create PRO fees for that music.

There is no limit on the number of rooms or devices inside one location: you pay for the location and for separate zones, not for the number of speakers.

Launch within one business day

Send an application and we approve it within a business day. After that, the music plays on the devices you already have in the venue: a POS terminal, tablet, laptop, mini-PC with a speaker or a Smart TV.

Staff don't have to pick anything each morning. Playlists and the schedule are set once, then the music starts by itself and doesn't repeat during a shift. For a chain, everything is managed centrally, by location and zone, from one account.

How much it costs

One plan, no bundles and no extra fees for genres or devices. The price depends only on the number of locations and zones.

$12per month for the first location, billed annually

Catalog, player, schedule, subscription agreement and license certificate. $144 a year, or $17/mo billed monthly

$7for each additional location

A chain is managed from one account. $84 a year, or $12/mo billed monthly

$4for a separate zone

Its own playlist and schedule for a separate room. $48 a year, or $5/mo billed monthly

Prices are per month when billed annually, which is the cheapest option. Monthly billing is available and costs more. After your application is approved, we send an invoice or a payment link. Full plan terms

Frequently asked questions

Can I use your music in a commercial venue?

Yes, that's its main purpose. The subscription agreement grants a public-performance license for the premises of a connected location. Our catalog isn't registered with PROs, so playing it does not create PRO fees for that music.

How is this different from free copyright-free music from the internet?

Free catalogs are usually built for video, not for playback in a room, and they almost always come with license conditions: credit the author, no commercial use, no derivatives. Breaking any of them makes the use unlawful, and you'd be the one proving it was lawful.

Is this music suitable for videos and social media?

The subscription gives you a public-performance license for your venue. Using the music in videos and ads is a different kind of use and has to be agreed separately. Write to sales@harmonia-b2b.com if you need it.

What do I show during a music licensing inspection?

Two documents: your subscription agreement with Harmonia and the license certificate (PDF) issued for each location. The certificate confirms that the venue holds a public-performance license for our catalog. If a rights organization contacts you, write to legal@harmonia-b2b.com and we will help you with the paperwork.

Which documents come with the subscription?

Two things: the subscription agreement, which includes a public-performance license for your venue, and a license certificate (PDF) for each location. You can show both during an inspection or send them to a rights organization that asks.

What happens if I play unlicensed music in a venue?

Playing music publicly without the right license can lead to claims and fines from performing rights organizations (PROs). The rules and the amounts depend on the country. A subscription to a catalog that includes a public-performance license removes this risk for the music you play from it.

How much does music for business cost per month?

From $12/mo per location when billed annually ($144 a year). Monthly billing is $17/mo. Each additional location in the same company is cheaper: $7/mo billed annually or $12/mo billed monthly. A separate zone with its own playlist is $4/mo billed annually or $5/mo billed monthly. There are no hidden fees for genres or devices.

What equipment does the music play on?

Almost anything: a POS terminal, mini-PC, TV box, Smart TV, laptop, or an Android or iOS phone. You don't need to buy special hardware. Everything runs through the web player or the app.
