A client spends anywhere from half an hour to several hours in the chair. In that time they hear everything: a radio ad break, a stylist's personal playlist coming from a phone speaker, or silence in which every word at the next chair is audible. Any of these works against the experience the client is paying for.
What works is a stylish, unobtrusive background: soft pop, French house, modern R&B, calm lounge, chillhop. Harmonia has 47 playlists and 40+ narrow themed collections, including 16 sound formats made specifically for beauty.
A salon is not one room but several zones with different tempos. One playlist for all of them doesn't work: what energizes the floor gets in the way in the facial room. In Harmonia each zone is set up separately, with its own playlist, its own volume and its own schedule.
The floor, nails, facials and massage move at different paces, and one volume for all of them suits none of the zones.
| Zone | What plays | Volume |
|---|---|---|
| Main floor | Soft pop, nu-disco, confident grooveSets the pace of the shift and covers the noise of dryers | Noticeable background |
| Manicure and pedicure | Chillhop, calm lounge, indie popThe service is long, and client and technician sit close and talk | Quiet background |
| Facials | Neoclassical, warm ambientThe client lies with eyes closed, sharp events get in the way | Very quiet |
| Massage | Deep relaxation, nature soundsThe rhythm shouldn't fight the pace of the therapist's hands | Very quiet |
| Front desk and waiting area | Evening lounge, soul and neo-soulThe first thing a client hears when the door opens | Quiet background |
A beauty salon has a problem a cafe or a store doesn't: its own equipment is louder than the music. A professional hair dryer runs at around 80 dB, and clippers and nail drills add a high-pitched whine. If you turn the volume up enough to cut through the dryer, the room will be blaring in the pauses between blow-dries.
The fix isn't volume, it's separation. The main floor and the treatment rooms sound separately, so the floor can carry a slightly denser background while a treatment room stays almost silent. A schedule helps too: calmer in the morning and afternoon, denser in the evening, with the playlist changing by itself.
And one more thing: mirrors, tile and hard materials reflect sound. In a room like that, tracks with sharp drums sound harsher than they did in headphones when you picked them. That's why Harmonia's beauty collections contain no music with an aggressive attack.
A typical background-music service gives you tracks by well-known artists. The rights to those tracks belong to labels and songwriters, so a salon may also have to deal with a performing rights organization (PRO), such as ASCAP or BMI in the US, PRS for Music in the UK or SOCAN in Canada, on top of the subscription.
Harmonia works differently. Our catalog is original music produced for business use, and a public-performance license for your venue is included in the subscription. Our tracks are not registered with PROs such as ASCAP, BMI, PRS, SOCAN, APRA AMCOS or GEMA, so playing music from our catalog does not create PRO fees for that music.
Send an application and we approve it within a business day. After that, the music plays on the devices you already have in the salon: the front desk phone or tablet, a laptop, a mini-PC with a speaker, or a smart TV in the waiting area.
Staff don't have to pick anything each morning. Playlists and the schedule are set once, then the music starts by itself and doesn't repeat during a shift. For a chain, everything is managed centrally, by location and zone, from one account.
One plan, no bundles and no extra fees for genres or devices. The price depends only on the number of locations and zones.

Not for our catalog. Every Harmonia track is original music produced for business use and is not registered with PROs such as ASCAP, BMI, SOCAN, PRS for Music, APRA AMCOS or GEMA. You pay only the subscription, and it includes a public-performance license for your venue.
On the floor: soft pop, nu-disco and confident groove. They keep the pace of the shift and don't get lost in the noise of hair dryers. In nail and facial rooms: chillhop, calm lounge and neoclassical. The general rule is no aggressive rhythm and no intrusive vocals, which get tiring over a long treatment.
From $12/mo per location when billed annually ($144 a year). Monthly billing is $17/mo. Each additional location in the same company is cheaper: $7/mo billed annually or $12/mo billed monthly. A separate zone with its own playlist is $4/mo billed annually or $5/mo billed monthly. There are no hidden fees for genres or devices.
No. Personal accounts on Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube Music are licensed for personal, non-commercial listening only, and their terms of service forbid playing them in a business. Music in a public space counts as public performance, which a personal subscription does not cover. You need either a public-performance license from the rights organizations in your country or a catalog that is licensed for business use, like ours.
Two documents: your subscription agreement with Harmonia and the license certificate (PDF) issued for each location. The certificate confirms that the venue holds a public-performance license for our catalog. If a rights organization contacts you, write to legal@harmonia-b2b.com and we will help you with the paperwork.
Playing music publicly without the right license can lead to claims and fines from performing rights organizations (PROs). The rules and the amounts depend on the country. A subscription to a catalog that includes a public-performance license removes this risk for the music you play from it.
Yes. Each zone, whether the floor, nails, facials or massage, gets its own playlist and its own schedule. Everything is managed from one window, and a zone costs from $4/mo on top of the location.
Each location is connected separately: the first from $12/mo, every additional one from $7/mo when billed annually. Playlists and schedules are set centrally from one account, so staff on site don't have to configure anything.
Send an application and we approve it within one business day. From $12/mo per location, billed annually.
